Polishing & Finishing
The final surface work that changes how jewellery reflects light, feels and wears.
Finish Changes the Character of Jewellery
Two pieces made from the same metal can look completely different because of surface finish. High polish creates strong reflection, satin and brushed finishes soften reflections, and specialist textures can create contrast or pattern.
Common Finishes
- Antique or oxidised-style contrast where suitable
- Diamond-cut decorative patterning using a cutting tool
- Gold, rose-gold, silver or black-rhodium plating
- High polish
- Rhodium plating
- Sandblasted / matte finish
- Satin / brushed finish
Polishing Removes Material
Professional polishing can make worn jewellery look dramatically fresher, but polishing works by refining the surface and can remove a small amount of metal. Heavy repeated polishing is therefore not appropriate for every thin or delicate item.
Plating Is a Surface Layer
Rhodium and other electroplated finishes are surface coatings. They wear according to thickness, contact, chemicals and how the jewellery is used. Re-plating is maintenance rather than a permanent one-time treatment.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can polishing remove every scratch?
Not always. Deep damage may require repair, and removing too much metal simply to chase a mark may be undesirable.
Do you offer antique and sandblast finishes?
Yes, subject to item suitability.
Is rhodium permanent?
No. It is a surface finish that wears over time.
What is diamond-cut finishing?
It uses a diamond-cutting tool to create bright decorative cuts or patterns in metal; it does not mean adding diamonds.
