What Is Scrap Gold?

Scrap gold is any gold item bought for the metal in it rather than to be resold as jewellery. A broken chain, a single earring, a bent ring: the gold is still gold, whatever shape it is in.

The word makes people think the item is worthless. It is not. What matters is how much gold the piece contains, which is its weight multiplied by its purity.

Not everything should be treated as scrap. A signed piece, a period piece or a set stone can be worth more whole than melted, which is why we look at the item before deciding.
