Sovereign Guide

The gold sovereign is the best known British gold coin. A full sovereign contains about 7.32 grams of pure gold at 22 carat, and a half sovereign about half that.

Sovereigns have been struck under many monarchs and at several mints. Most trade near their gold content, while scarcer years and mints can be worth more to a collector.

Mounted sovereigns, set into rings or pendants, are assessed with the mount taken into account.
