Bespoke (custom made) jewellery

About Our Bespoke Service

Bespoke is one of our specialities. Our family has worked with jewellery for four generations. Growing up, workshop tools were part of everyday life, and that practical background now sits alongside modern CAD design and manufacturing technology.

The eight steps of a bespoke commission, from consultation to collection

Gold Factory

Gold Factory is a family jewellery business built on four generations of jewellery experience. We have served customers since 2000, combining traditional workshop knowledge with a modern jewellery showroom.

Our family began showcasing fine gold jewellery online in 1994 under an earlier business, and Gold Factory itself was established in 2000.

Jewellery Designed Around You

Bespoke jewellery is for customers who do not want to compromise on an off-the-shelf design. You may have a clear drawing, a photograph, an heirloom you want to reinterpret or simply an idea that needs developing. We can work from any of these starting points.

Depending on the project, you can choose the metal, purity, dimensions, stone type, diamond specification, setting style, finish, engraving and other design details. We make bespoke rings, pendants, bracelets, bangles, chains, earrings, wedding jewellery and one-off pieces.

The Bespoke Process

We first discuss the design, purpose, budget and practical requirements. Once the order is confirmed, we normally require a minimum 50% deposit before CAD design or manufacturing work begins.

Where CAD is appropriate, you receive a digital design/render to review before manufacture. Changes can be discussed before final approval. Once the design has been approved and production has begun, later changes may involve additional work, cost and time.

Choosing Your Metal and Stones

Gold Factory works across the precious-metal ranges we sell, including 22ct, 18ct, 14ct and 9ct gold, as well as platinum and silver. The right choice depends on colour, strength, budget, design and how the piece will be worn.

We offer both natural and laboratory-grown diamonds and can source certified stones from various recognised laboratories depending on the stone. Gemstones can also be incorporated where suitable.

Using Your Own Gold

In some projects we can work with a customer’s own gold. This needs to be discussed before the order is confirmed because old jewellery often contains solder and mixed alloys. When previously soldered jewellery is melted, the resulting purity can differ from the original hallmark.

For that reason, we cannot automatically guarantee that jewellery made from a customer’s old jewellery can be hallmarked at the same purity. A 99.9% fine gold bar provides a more predictable starting material. We can also offer part exchange and use fresh/refined metal instead, which may be the better option for some designs.

Final Weight and Price

A manufactured piece is not expected to finish to an exact fraction of a gram simply because a CAD model or estimate showed a particular weight. Our made-to-order jewellery operates with a normal manufacturing tolerance of approximately ±5%.

If the final manufactured weight is lower than the estimated chargeable weight, the price is adjusted down. If it is higher, the price is adjusted up. This weight tolerance relates to manufacturing, not to purity, hallmarking or bullion.

Timescales

Bespoke lead times depend on the complexity of the design, stone sourcing, manufacturing method, finishing, hallmarking where required and any revisions. We do not promise a universal turnaround because a simple name pendant and a complex stone-set bridal piece are very different projects.

We do not offer same-day bespoke manufacturing. We will give you an estimated timeframe for your particular order and update you if anything material changes.

Bespoke Engagement and Wedding Jewellery

Bespoke design is particularly useful for engagement rings and wedding bands. We can design around a chosen diamond, create a wedding ring that follows the shape of an existing engagement ring, develop matching bands or create a completely individual bridal set.

Customers can also incorporate engraving, dates, initials, birthstones or other personal details where technically suitable.
